Has the US shot itself in the foot severely enough to realise that it must develop a capacity for self-restraint?
Has the US visited upon itself sufficient pain to put to one side its obsession with physical, armed power?
Has the US learnt now something of what it might be like to be small, innocent and vulnerable?
