State schools and a perverse “profession”

Yesterday evening with chair of school’s debating competition who told me how teachers who give up their time for voluntary activities are berated by colleagues for not doing their best to lift their school’s “performance.”
It is the quality of the whole of school life, including academic performance that is enhanced by extra-curricular activity. Independent schools know this but in state schools following the government’s lead is the new political correctness – how perverse.
