Politicians and concern about gay marriage

Governments and others should concern themselves less with marriage, an increasingly flexible notion, and consider regarding as married any couple who bring a child into the world. Theirs could then be an imposed marriage, an obligatory contract, to protect and nurture first of all the child, a vulnerable conscript. Should either parent already have a contract to other children, then their suitability to act as parents to the child could be questioned, much as the suitability of adults seeking to foster or adopt children is questioned.

Adults choose to marry, adults choose to have children, but for children secure homes are the result of a lottery. Children deserve better and their interests should be secured before those of their parents.
