Good manners are so useful.

A recent correspondent to The Times does more than provide a good conversational ice-breaker. “Do you mind if I ask where you are from?”
He also reminds us of the utility of good manners. How might visitors from abroad react were they simply asked, “Where are you from?”
It is not difficult to combine what we need to say with a concern to address some one in manner that reflects our consideration and respect for them. Thank you Mr Robinson.
