EU – Unite supporters and opponents

I have just received an invitation to join UKIP. It’s not an invitation that I am likely to accept; when I suggested to the party that if they wanted their concerns about the cost of EU membership to be taken seriously they should take the Chancellor to court I received three very different responses indicating why they should not do so: the cost, treaty commitments, the appointment to the judiciary only of supporters of the EU!

My interest in seeing the Chancellor challenged in this way is not political, but merely a matter of expecting good housekeeping from the government and should appeal to Europhiles and Eurosceptics alike. Government ministers have a duty to see that public resources are not wasted. They cannot do this when recipients of government funding do not account for the use of that money; the UK should plan to curtail payments to the EU until and unless the EU mends its ways.
