What does Henrietta do? She buys ice cream and eats it out of her mother’s sight. We are also told that she has a passion; the verb to have indicates that something belongs to her or is in her possession.

Grammatically, verbs represent actions, actions that we can hear or see, such as clapping or walking. Some verbs help us to understand someone or something. In this grammatical sense having something, or being something is an action.

Why is it important to recognise verbs?

Essentially a verb tells us about an action or something about the world.

To understand a sentence we have to find and understand verbs.

If you can speak English then you can understand English.
If you understand English then you will use it more effectively.
