Answer

Henrietta had a particular passion for ice cream which she bought every day and would eat in places where her mother could not find her.

What does Henrietta do? She buys ice cream and eats it out of her mother’s sight. We are also told that she has a passion, for ice cream. We are also told that her mother could not find her.

Grammatically, verbs represent actions, actions that we can hear or see, such as clapping or walking. Some verbs help us to understand someone or something. In this grammatical sense having something, or being something is an action.

Why is it important to recognise verbs?

Essentially a verb tells us about an action or something about the world. The verb provided the core of a sentence; without one the other words make less sense.
