Fathers who walk out – recommended comment on The Times web site

The Times August 8 2017

Find the lost boys before the extremists do

Rachel Sylvester was writing about boys who are drawn into criminal gangs or radicalisation and rightly referred to a disconnect between one generation and the next, particularly with the father, found with difficult boys.

It was a phenomena which I found in thirty years of teaching: difficult boys whose fathers, I discovered, had abandoned them. Why do we not insist that absentee fathers live within walking distance of their children’s home and provide them with keys? Why are lone mothers allowed to keep the fatherless children that they bring into the world?

Try “dunno” my  novel which explores a disaffected teenage boy’s struggles to grow up.
